About Dr Barbara J. Hensley

Barbara J. Hensley, Ed.D., is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in private practice and a respected leader in the EMDR community. She served as President and Treasurer of the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA) Board of Directors and represented EMDRIA internationally in Stockholm, Sweden, and Brussels, Belgium. Dr. Hensley is also a past member of the EMDR Research Foundation Board of Directors, an EMDRIA Certified Therapist and Approved Consultant, and a former Regional coordinator for the Greater Cincinnati EMDRIA Regional Network. 

Dr. Hensley earned her Master's, Advanced Graduate, and Doctorate degrees in Clinical Counseling from the University of Cincinnati, along with undergraduate degrees in English (B.A.) from Miami University of Ohio and Accounting (B.S.) from the University of Cincinnati. 

Before becoming a full-time clinical counselor, Dr. Hensley spent 30 years as an information technology professional with the Ohio Department of Transportation. She has also served for many years as a Facilitator and Logistician for EMDR Institute, Inc., providing training throughout the United States and Japan. 

A recognized author and educator, Dr. Hensley received the distinguished Francine Shapiro Award (2009) for her exceptional service and contributions to EMDR therapy. She is the author of:

  • An EMDR Therapy Primer. From Practicum to Practice (4th Edition)
  • The Many Tracks of EMDR Therapy: Sourcebook of techniques, Interventions, Strategies, and Modifications to the Standard EMDR Therapy Protocol

 She has also contributed to several articles in the Journal of EMDR Practice and Research, and is the co-founder of the Cincinnati Trauma Connection, a trauma-focused psychological center in Cincinnati, Ohio.
