How to Use the Francine Shapiro Library
Hit Search Items on the left-hand side of home page:
-
To search all fields, enter a search term (e.g., panic disorder) into the "Search for Keywords" box. Hit the "Search for Items" button found in the lower right-hand side of the page.
-
To conduct a more detailed search, use the” Narrow by Specific Fields” option. (1) Choose description, format, title, or author and (2) contains, does not contain, is exactly, is empty, is not empty. Enter search term in the blank box to the right of the drop down menus. Additional fields may be searched by hitting "Add a Field" and specifying new criteria. Hit the "Search for Items" button found in the lower right-hand side of the page.
-
To limit search by collection (i.e., EMDR Collection or Community of Heart), select collection from dropdown menu. Enter search term in the blank box at the top of the page next to “Search for Keywords.” Select format type. Hit the "Search for Items" button found in the lower right-hand side of the page.
-
To limit search to items in a specific format (e.g., Journals, Magazines), use "Search by Item Type.” Enter search term in the blank box at the top of the page next to “Search for Keywords.” Select format type. Hit the "Search for Items" button found in the lower right-hand side of the page.
-
To limit search by tags, enter the search word or term in the blank space. Hit the "Search for Items" button found in the lower right-hand side of the page.
Searches will only return items that exactly match all keywords entered. For the most accurate results, remove any punctuation, and unimportant words (for example, search for "borderline personality disorder" instead of "Treating borderline personality disorder with EMDR").
Much like a physical library, the user may "browse the stacks" by clicking Browse Items. An alphabetical listing of all the citations in the library will appear. Click on any of the tags in any article and a list of all citations with the tage will appear on the screen.
In addition to the curated bibliographic items in the FSL, there is also a collection of EMDR scholarly profiles available in the A Community of Heart collection. To view these profiles, simply click A Community of Heart.
Many, but not all, of the documents cited in the FSL can be accessed. Because of national and international copyright laws, the only documents accessible through the Library are those that are already in the public domain. Where this occurs, a hyperlink is made available within the article's detailed record. Fortunately, many of the journal articles exist in the public domain and are freely accessible. The examples below illustrate openly accessible public works, which comprise much of the FSL's bibliographic collection.
