In many cases, the therapist may get confused with which direction to take when reaching this point in treatment. Normally, people who suffer from these disorders present too many symptoms and complaints, so it will be necessary to have guidelines that can help us conceptualize. EMDR therapy answers this question through the EDs protocol, which helps stabilize, organize and structure the patient’s inner world. This workshop will provide clinicians with protocol-based guidelines to organize the treatment in phase 2. These guidelines include identifying and working with the most conflictive parts in the inner world, learning the language of EDs, neutralizing the blocking defenses, and using the best resources in order to bring up the memory with which to start the standard protocol in phase 3. It is my opinion that it is advantageous for the clinician to attempt to get all the pieces to the protocol and I recommend the scripts provides in this chapter as possible ways to do so. Use the scripts either during Phase 1 (history taking) or Phase 2 (preparation). The When Words and Pictures Fail Script is provided, and a case example is use to illustrate how to address unrecalled or missing assessment ingredients.
