Eye-movement therapy may seem weird but is sometimes effective
Description
For the past decade, increasing numbers of mental health professionals have been treating trauma victims with a therapy called eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), a relatively new treatment developed in the late 1980s by psychologist Francine Shapiro, a senior research fellow at the Mental Research Institute in Palo Alto, Calif., and executive director of the EMDR Institute in Pacific Grove.
