Filling the void: Resolution of a major depression
Description
This case demonstrates the value of EMDR in rapidly resolving a major depression by processing a series of traumatic memories. The themes of loss, overwhelming helplessness, and inadequacy weave through each of these memories and tie them together. Major depression, Jane's primary diagnosis, is not one of the diagnoses typically thought of as responsive to EMDR. This case is particularly interesting because of the breadth of change Jane experienced as a result of processing these traumatic memories and the follow-up integrative work we did; the depression was relieved as well as a cluster of other issues that appeared to be more characterological.
