Using EMDR to treat psychogenic nonepileptic seizures

Description

Psychogenic non-epileptic seizures are paroxysmal episodes that mimic true epileptic seizures but are not brain-based. Rather, for many patients they are somatic representations of trauma. Until recently, little has been known about types of mental health treatment that are most effective for PNES patients. Since 2003, however, the presenters have systematically studied and treated PNES patients with trauma histories. EMDR has been successful in extinguishing PNES in a substantial number of patients. Using a case-based approach, presenters describe the process and outcomes of this work.
