<text>In this presentation the concept of "intercultural competence" is developed. A structured way is introduced to develop a therapeutic relationship with clients from another culture in order to build up trust and to bridge cultural differences in styles of processing and expression of emotion. The eight phases of EMDR will be reviewed and screened for necessary adaptations, leading to a series of practical guidelines, useful metaphors, rituals, and helpful concepts. The presentation will be illustrated with case examples, both successful and less successful.</text>
