Description

This chapter describes the procedural steps of the Assessment Phase and Desensitization Phase of the EMDR Standard Protocol (Shapiro, 2001) with detailed scripts for steering a child through each phase. What is important for the therapist to understand is that eliciting the procedural steps for the Assessment Phase and Desensitization Phase is impacted by the child's level of development, and scripts for the procedural steps need to be adjusted accordingly. Generally, these scripts are what the authors use for children 8 years old and up. For children under 8 years old, the authors will give examples that show how to adjust the language to the developmental abilities of the child.
