Enhanced EMDR treatment with domestic violence offenders

Description

EMDR, Energy Therapy, and EMDR plus Energy Therapy was utilized in the treatment of high-risk Domestic Violence offenders. Twenty-four of the 49 participants agreed to receive the enhanced treatment, consisting of individual sessions with certified EMDR and Energy therapists, while participating in court-ordered offense specific treatment groups. The control group consisted of 25 offenders who participated solely in the court-ordered psycho-educational groups. Preliminary results suggest that the enhanced treatment correlated positively with treatment success, with combined treatment (EMDR and Energy Therapy) showing the largest effect. Offenders in the enhanced group showed marked improvements in their treatment, especially in regard to motivation and resistance, and had fewer correctional sanctions, than offenders in the control group.
