Suicide and treatment of PTSD at the VA
Description
Despite a high percentage of soldiers with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and the increasing rates of suicide, the Department of Defense has failed to research one of the most effective and widely recognized trauma treatments, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). EMDR is included as a first line treatment for PTSD in numerous national and international practice guidelines as well as in the Veterans Administration/Department of Defense's (VA/DoD) own Clinical Practice Guideline for the Management of Post-Traumatic Stress (2010).
