EMDR: A brief introduction

This presentation will provide a context by introducing eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR). The history of the development of EMDR by Francine Shapiro will be described. The theoretical rationale of EMDR (the adaptive information processing (AIP) model) will be explained. The ‘eight-stage’ standard protocol of EMDR will be described. Finally, the presentation will outline theories relating to the possible neurobiological processes in EMDR
