Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (emdr) is een behandelmethode die sterk aan populariteit aan het winnen is. Een belangrijke reden daarvoor is dat deze evidence-based procedure door internationale expert panels en adviescommissies wordt beschouwd als een behandeling van eerste keuze voor de posttraumatische stressstoornis (ptss; apa, 2000; zie bijvoorbeeld National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health, 2005). Omdat het toepassen van psychologische behandelmethoden tot het deskundigheidsgebied van de gz-psycholoog behoort, zal hij op basis van zijn vakinhoudelijke competenties – zoals het diagnostisch redeneerproces – daarom steeds vaker besluiten tot behandeling met emdr. Dit hoofdstuk gaat over de rol en taak van de gz-psycholoog in het behandelproces waar het de toepassing van emdr betreft en de (stapsgewijze) werkwijze die daar het beste bij past. Begonnen wordt met een korte schets van wat emdr is. Daarna wordt achtereenvolgens ingegaan op hoe de gz-psycholoog emdr kan toepassen, de afbakening van zijn interventies met die van andere big-beroepen binnen de ggz, enkele diagnostische overwegingen, en de behandelaanpak in praktische zin.

Then successively examines how the health care psychologist EMDR can apply the delimitation of its interventions with those of other big professions within the mental health services , some diagnostic considerations , and treatment approaches in a practical sense.
