EMDR & positive psychology: Truly looking forward to the future. What is the antonym to trauma? Avoiding the ‘Maslovian trap’ with EMDR and positive psychology

Description

It is a widely held view that the full potential of EMDR has yet to be identified. This is the first conference symposium that explores the development of what Ann-Marie McKelvey described in EMDR Solutions II (McKelvey 2009), as the ‘Dynamic Duo’ of EMDR and Positive Psychology, and what David Blore described as ‘The Search for the Antonym to Trauma’ (Blore 2012). However, firstly there is a need to avoid the ‘Maslovian Trap’ of only focussing on the alleviation of the negative outcomes to events. Once this has been achieved, possibilities highlighted in this symposium point to a true continuum emerging from ‘EMDR therapy’ to the attainment of an individual’s “full potential height” (Maslow1954).
