An introduction to the treatment of domestic violence perpetrators

Description

This cursory presentation may help the clinician recognize domestic violence clients and inspire interest in further training, promoting safer integration of EMDR in the treatment of domestic violence. Definitions, statistics, and examples of domestic violence will be briefly explored. History taking approach regarding exposure in childhood and in adulthood along with couples safety will be touched upon. Assessing the perpetrators readiness for treatment, safer reprocessing and indicators of change will be highlighted. Target selection and the three-pronged approach will be briefly examined. Greater awareness may safeguard their practice with this potentially lethal population.
