EMDR and the treatment of long term depression
Description
Clinicians often feel that research is not for them; it is something done by Universities and not those in real life clinical practice. This does not have to be the case; this workshop will introduce EMDR clinicians to the importance of research in clinical practice and to methods that are more suited to that environment. The workshop will focus on single case experimental designs and interviews to show that you do not have to do a randomised controlled trail to contribute to knowledge.
Although evidenced based practice (EBP) is important there is a role for practice based evidence (PBE) to compliment and add to EBP. These two concepts will be defined and how they can coexist will be explained. The workshop will also discuss some of the practical issues around research, such as getting ethical approval for your study, how to get informed consent from your participants, funding issues, who and what to study and how to tell people about it once its complete.
Clinicians have a valuable role to play in collecting and disseminating high quality practice based research.
