The ‘flash-forward procedure’ - confronting the catastrophe
Description
The “Flashforward” procedure (Logie & De Jongh, in press) will be introduced as a treatment for ‘worst case scenario’ irrational fears, for example, when a persisting fear continues after the core memories of past events have been fully processed. It will be explained how Flashforward should be regarded as an aspect of the ‘second prong’ (present) of the three-pronged protocol of EMDR. The differences between Flashforward and Future Template will be explained.
Situations in which the use of Flashforwards might be appropriate will be described. The process of how to utilize Flashforward will be explained in detail. The use of Flashforward for various disorders in which there is a fear of future events (eg phobia, PTSD, OCD) will be outlined together with case examples including video.
Participants will work through the Assessment phase of the EMDR protocol for a future feared situation using their own material.
