The neural underpinnings of the 8 phases of EMDR

Description

What happens at a neurobiological level during the eight phases of EMDR treatment? What processes and circuitry are activated? This workshop will examine online/wakeful information processing, including sensation, perception, somatosensory integration, cognition, and memory. Additionally, this presentation will examine the pre/post EMDR treatment research (psychophysiological, neuroimaging, and EEG) as well as the within-set/during EMDR treatment research (psychophysiological, neuroimaging, and EEG). This material as well as data from the research bases in neurobiology, focusing on information processing and neural function, will be used to explore and explicate the neurobiology of the eight phases of EMDR. Accordingly, this presentation will explore the neural circuitry that is activated during grounding in the preparation phase, circuitry that is activated during the assessment phase, and circuitry that is activated during the desensitization, installation, and the body scan phases.
