The number of asylum applications in Italy in 2014 has more than doubled compared to the previous year, reaching the amount of about 65,000 applications. Despite about 170,000 migrants who arrived last year through the Mediterranean route, there are 78,000 refugees within Italy’s borders. [Excerpt]
