I did about three months of intense counseling, in which I underwent a psychotherapy treatment called Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) that’s often used on people who have experienced trauma. It basically helps to get your brain “unstuck” — and it helped me remember details from the attack that I had been suppressing, and talk about them out loud so I could get them out of my head. Through this therapy, I was able to forgive my attacker. [Excerpt]
