Mechanisms of change in traumatic memories

Description

The aim of this presentation is to cover recent key developments in our understanding of the working mechanism of EMDR. Insights from recent experimental research in the lab and clinic will be presented. Topics will include working memory theory; memory reconsolidation; the effect of eye movements while recalling an aversive memory compared to other dual-tasks (e.g., listening to bilateral tones or performing arithmetic); and future-oriented images about potential catastrophe ('flash-forwards'). Potential clinical implications will be discussed.
