Language is the cement of psychotherapy

Description

The narrative discourse of the patient, on which we focus, is taken from the first interview. The patient talks about a previous experience with another EMDR therapist. The patient explains what happened during the last session with the therapist, during the phase of desensitization of the target on the recollection of her trauma. Psychotherapy is a "speech event" (Labov and Fanshel, 1977).

An empirical analysis of the patient/therapist interaction has been performed, using “pragmatic” methods -- the study of spoken language. This study was examined using the methodological framework of interlocutory logic (Trognon and Batt, 2010).
