The treatment of painful penetration through EMDR
Description
Vaginismus is considered to be a psychophysiological disorder with phobic elements deriving from real or imaginary negative experiences with sexuality/penetration and/or organic diseases.
Fear and anxiety about penetration are physiologically expressed through the involuntary vaginal muscle spasm, which is typical of vaginismus.
The patient’s history must also include the features which define the pain: duration, intensity, worsening and improvement factors, and, consequently, every associated physical and psychological component.
