EMDR and auditive intrusions

The working memory is assumed to comprise three components: a limited capacity attentional control system - the central executive - and two subsidiary slave systems, the visuospatial sketchpad and the phonological loop. Of these, the visuospatial sketchpad is assumed to maintain and manipulate visual information and to be involved in visual imagery, whereas the phonological loop performs a similar function for auditory and verbal material. If the working memory account is correct this should imply a modality specificity, which means that taxing the working memory in the same modality as the modality of the image should imply a greater extent to which the vividness and emotionality are influenced. A few studies have tested modality specificity. In my presentation I will introduce to you this working memory model and modality specificity and the research done so far, but also I will tell you about the latest research on auditive material (hearing voices, auditive intrusions) and modality specific taxing. At this moment a study is still ongoing, so the latest presented data will be hot of the press.
