Making EMDR more available in emergency situations: G-TEP a group application of the EMDR recent-traumatic episode protocol (R-TEP)
Description
The accessibility of EMDR therapy in emergency and disaster situations is often limited by the shortage of trained clinicians immediately available when relatively large numbers of trauma victims are involved. Inspired by Rolf Carriere's call for 'scaling up' EMDR, the issues involved are discussed and a new group EMDR protocol is presented. This presentation gives a brief overview of the EMDR Recent Traumatic Episode Protocol (R-TEP) and presents a new practical application: the EMDR G-TEP (Group Traumatic Episode Protocol) –with its worksheet format for simplified utilisation in emergency situations. Further applications are discussed. The EMDR R-TEP and G-TEP have shown beneficial results in controlled studies conducted by Turkish colleagues working with Syrian refugees.
