Description

Is EMDR therapy with gays and lesbians different? Although treatment is similar in many ways, there are experiences that sexual minorities face in American culture that will impact the issues that clients bring to treatment and traumas that can be effectively targeted with EMDR. In this chapter, the unique elements of EMDR therapy with gays/lesbians/bisexuals will be reviewed. This chapter will restrict itself to issues of concern for LGB individuals but clinicians need to be aware that there are unique concerns for all clients under the LGBTQQI umbrella: lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning and intersex.
