Description

In this chapter we will emphasize the need for the clinician to acquaint herself with the patient’s culture, mores, lore, and metaphors so as to understand the patient within a meaningful context. We will underscore the utility of taking a thorough longitudinal history which can help in understanding current symptoms not otherwise accounted for, and help us identify potential EMDR targets. We will also argue that successful treatment includes both reprocessing of trauma and the reconstruction of a coherent, meaningful life narrative.
