Grief seen through the different stages of development from the perspective of EMDR

Description

Grief is a normal reaction when someone suffers a loss. However we must realise that grief is dealt with differently depending on the age and mental development of the person who suffered it, at that Time/Session. In other words, a child doesn´t process grief in the same way as an adult does. I have found that the best way to treat a patient who suffered grief is through EMDR, keeping in mind the mental maturity and chronological age of the patient when the first loss happened. By using EMDR we work on the mental blocks that inhibit the natural healing process from taking place in our patient . This EMDR protocol, however, must be adapted to each patient as we must consider the mental age and maturity at the Time/Session when the grief was suffered. Our goals are working on these mental blocks during the reprocessing, using different adaptations of the EMDR procedure to release these blocks, even if this child is an adult today.
