Mekong project and the capacity building for the trauma treatment in Cambodia and Myanmar

Cambodia and Myanmar are lacking of professionally trained therapists in trauma treatment. There are approximately thirty psychologists, psychiatrists and mental health practitioners in each country have been selected to participate in EMDR Training. Each participant has finished their standard EMDR training which was accredited by EMDR Europe trainer, Dr. Derek Farrell from the UK. Various numbers of clinical supervisions have been done in between the training from one level to another. Traumatized population have obtained EMDR treatment by the trained EMDR practitioners from Cambodia and Myanmar. EMDR trainings have been completed with clinical supervision. Four levels of EMDR training have been successfully conducted in each of the country, Cambodia and Myanmar. Clinical supervisions have been organized and offered to newly trained EMDR practitioners in each of the country in between the training from one level to another. As the outcome, about thirty newly EMDR practitioners have been providing EMDR treatment to traumatized population in each of the country, Cambodia and Myanmar. Many lessons learnt from challenges in building up new professional resources in trauma treatment within these two countries with low and middle incomes. Further recommendation and practical experiences from the fields are addressed and discussed.
