Single trauma - Single session, use of EMDR in children with single incident trauma

Description

The data presented is two cases of children with school phobia. History involved them witnessing a trauma few weeks prior to their symptoms. Bothe children had symptoms of anxiety, nightmares, irritability, crying spells, not wanting to attend school and preoccupation with the trauma. Treatment involved going to various counselors and paediatricians for advice. An admission in the hospital to rule out appendicitis was also done! A single session of EMDR involving all the 8 phases, produced a stabilization and complete recovery. The reevaluation phase involved a feedback that the children are back in school and doing well. This shows children respond well to EMDR and are very receptive to the therapy. They understand the stages well, and can follow through easily if there is no other complex trauma involved. Having stable family support is equally important .
