Fallacies, trance & monsters: Thinking about dissociation systemically

Description

Many EMDR practitioners are surprised to encounter unsuspected somatic or structural dissociation well into treatment with trauma patients. This presentation provides necessary and perhaps painful insights needed to avoid the therapeutic misadventures caused by such fallacies such as “I’d See Dissociation if It Were There,” “Introjects are Monsters,” “What I Don’t See Can’t Hurt Me,” “Parts are People” “The Porch is the House,” and more. Additionally, the presentation will offer a systematic decision process, by EMDR therapy phase, to determine degree and type of dissociation, best resourcing strategies, and a treatment approach that takes the client’s self-system into account.
