EMDR in action: A case study
Description
The purpose of this workshop is to review an individual case history to provide an increased understanding of how EMDR is functionally integrated into therapeutic sessions with respect to the counseling process and while remaining true to Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) Theory. The case study presented reflects a significant trauma history with exposure to sexual violence and highlights the importance of the clinical relationship between client and therapist.
Learning Objectives:
1) develop an improved theoretical understanding of the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) Model within the therapeutic sessions;
2) develop an improved ability to identify how to introduce and execute the 8 phases of EMDR;
3) gain awareness of clinical concepts which impact the therapeutic process such as secondary gains, cognitive distortions and self-awareness and strategies to aid in developing plans to counteract these as they arise;
4) gain a “birdseye” view of EMDR utilization from beginning to end.
