Das Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) ist eine therapeutische Methode, deren Wirksamkeit in der Behandlung von traumatischen Erkrankungen gezeigt werden konnte. Seit der Annahme eines spezifischen Suchtgedächtnisses bildet EMDR auch für Substanzgebrauchsstörungen einen eigenen Anwendungsbereich. Die vorliegende Überblicksarbeit fasst den aktuellen Forschungsstand zu EMDR-Behandlungseffekten bei stoffgebundenen Abhängigkeitserkrankungen zusammen. Mithilfe der Datenbanken PubMed und PsychInfo wurde eine systematische Literaturrecherche durchgeführt, wobei vier relevante Studien identifiziert wurden. Bei der Behandlung mit EMDR zeigte sich eine Reduktion des Cravings, der Angst und der Depressionswerte, sowie eine Verbesserung der Emotionsregulierung und des Selbstwertgefühls. Erste Ergebnisse verweisen auf das hohe therapeutische Potential von EMDR für den Bereich der Substanzgebrauchsstörungen.

Since the concept of an addiction memory has become widely accepted, the use of EMDR also in substance use disorders (SUD) treatment might count as a separate field. This review summarizes the current state of research on treatment effects EMDR in SUD. The literature search included the databases of PubMed and PsychInfo; four studies met the inclusion criteria. EMDR was found to be related to a decreased amount of craving, fear and depression and to an improvement of emotion regulation and management and self-esteem. Initial findings indicate a high therapeutic potential of EMDR in SUD treatment.
