Recovery from anniversary reaction through EMDR
Description
This article presents a clinical case study exploring how EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) can be used to treat psychological distress triggered by death-related trauma, often referred to as “death responses.” Matsumoto examines how unresolved grief and trauma associated with loss can manifest as emotional dysregulation, flashbacks, and avoidance behaviors. Through EMDR sessions, the client was able to reprocess traumatic memories and reduce emotional reactivity. The study highlights EMDR’s potential to support adaptive mourning and emotional stabilization in individuals struggling with bereavement-related symptoms.
