Questions and cautions for deployment of EMDR EIS with first responders and public safety personnel

Description

When treating First Responders and Public Safety Professionals, therapists need to understand more than just psychotherapy. There are numerous questions and legal ramifications associated with providing psychological services to First Responders and Public Safety Professionals before deploying staff and services to consider. Providing EMDR EIs not only includes case conceptualization, but also treatment planning with a fiduciary awareness of the implications that extend beyond treatment. Therapists and EMDR therapy organizations need to consider the implications of EMDR EIs by asking questions about the deployment of any services each time treatment is provided. Pre-incident planning and groundwork that includes answering the following questions and training personnel - both within the EMDR therapy community and providing training for the First Responders and Public Safety Personnel - will create relationships for more efficacious services when the unthinkable happens. The following are a summary of the questions for which the EMDR therapists and organizations need training and written policies and procedures before deployment of EIs.
