Description

Migraine has been related to mental illness in the medical field for more than a century. The characteristics of migraine are head pain and neurological, gastrointestinal, and autonomic symptoms. Migraines are the third most common illness in the world, with 12% of the world population suffering from this type of chronic headache. Migraine disrupts family, social, and work activities. There is also a connection between psychiatric illnesses such as anxiety disorders and depression. Often, when there is a psychiatric problem, there is more of a possibility of it converting to its chronic form. Because chronic pain is etiologically related to adverse life events (traumatic experiences), the authors believe that eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy could be of use and created the EMDR Chronic Migraine Protocol. This chapter provides a brief description on EMDR treatment for migraine protocol script notes and EMDR therapy treatment for migraine protocol script. A pilot study found that there was a significant reduction in migraine frequency and duration, emergency visits, and medication use. There was also a decrease in pain intensity, although not statistically significant. EMDR therapy includes the Three-Pronged Protocol and an in-depth history of the client's migraine and trauma.
