Trauma and dissociation in a changing field: Current challenges for the European Society for Trauma and Dissociation

Description

Background
Trauma Aid Germany (TAG) is one of the largest Trauma Capacity Building NGO’s within the EMDR therapy community. Psychological trauma is a silent epidemic which presents as a global public health issue, often in the form of PTSD & C-PTSD. The shear enormity of trauma populations places even more pressure on the scarce resources within LMIC’s, particularly in the aftermath of natural disasters, conflict environments and humanitarian crises.

Aims
This symposium will utilise a series of Country Case Studies from a range of TAG projects including Indonesia, Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Lebanon, Rwanda, Haiti & Iraq

Methods
These Country Case Studies will highlight the unique trauma characteristics of each country, explore how the teaching and learning curriculum was adapted to the needs of each state. It will also explore the clinical supervision and consultation strategies that were used to empower a ‘within country and regional’ support and sustainability network in EMDR Therapy. In addition, the symposium will highlight the adaptation of teaching & learning curriculum to encompass both professional and allied professional/ paraprofessionals.

Results & Conclusion
The findings of each country case study will be highlighted with regards to comparing and contrasting teaching and learning curriculum designs, support and sustainability models, and ‘in country’ impact in the endeavour towards creating successful models in trauma capacity building.
