Sexual disorders treatment with EMDR therapy and physical therapy for the pelvic floor

Background
EMDR and Pelvic Floor rehabilitation have proven to be, in sexual therapy, an effective intervention that may give an important contribution to improve female sexual pain disorder therapy.

Targets
Illustrating the results of a 1st observation study on patients with female sexual pain disorder; presentino an integrated intervention protocol for sexual disorders, where EMDR will be effectively integrated with the pelvic floor rehabilitation, thus increasing the treatment results.

Method
A 15 patients sample with female sexual pain disorder has been treated by combining EMDR with pelvic floor rehabilitation. The Female Sexual Function Index has been applied before and after the treatment to assess the sexual activity in relation to the reported symptom.

Conclusions and results
Results indicate a 60% rate of remission, thus proving the integrated approach success. The Female Sexual Function Index response has pointed out a difference between before and after the therapy, in connection with the pain presence before and after the genital penetration, and also an improvement of sexual satisfaction.
