Health issues as a doorway for healing trauma: Changing our destiny

Description

As we make our way through a pandemic, health issues are a major concern in our world. Those with pre-existing immunocompromised conditions are the most vulnerable. The pandemic is creating trauma and stress for many. It is more critical than ever to help clients heal old trauma which may be at the root of a pre-existing disease process, provide greater internal resources, and improve immune function. Research in the scientific field of epigenetics has emerged over the past 20 years, revealing that genetic expression relates to the subtle energetic environment surrounding the gene, rather than the DNA itself. That environment is comprised of many factors including emotional, spiritual, and trauma related events. Felitti’s study on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) was released in 1998, indicating that the higher the ACE score, the more probable that disease and early death would be the outcome of early trauma. Francine Shapiro (2014) suggested that healing past traumas can assist in healing present health crisis. This contributes to changing our future by shifting the energy field surrounding our genetic structure which determines gene expression. We have the potential to create evolutionary change for ourselves and future generations. We are entering a new paradigm of awareness that mind, body, and consciousness are interconnected and contribute to the expression of physical and mental health. Case presentations exemplify how processing trauma within the 8 stages of EMDR therapy contribute to moving the expression of disease from an active to an inactive state, changing consciousness, and influencing evolution. Internal resourcing using mindfulness, imagery, and therapist/client attunement are utilized as symptoms of disease become the doorway to the deeper trauma and beliefs influencing biological functioning within a continuum of health and disease. Modern scientific breakthroughs are compared to the philosophies and healing practices of ancient wisdom traditions.
