The transformative journey storytelling method: A culturally responsive approach to EMDR preparation

The author’s journey as a therapist has been defined by experiences of intercultural exchange. As a new therapist in Northwest British Columbia, Canada, she began working with Indigenous individuals and families, receiving training in Indigenous psychotherapy and land-based healing practices. Since then, she has worked for an organization in Hanoi, Vietnam, specializing in psychological services for survivors of human trafficking, and an international women’s rights organization in Germany supporting health professionals in conflict-affected settings, such as the Kurdish Region of Iraq, Afghanistan, Kosovo, and BosniaHerzegovina. She currently lives as an expatriate with her family in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and continues to work internationally as a trauma therapist and trainer.
