Online EMDR group psychotherapy

Description

The flexibility of EMDR Therapy allows for not only individual, but group interventions, with in-person interactions in post-catastrophe settings. It also shows promising prospects with continuous on-line group psychotherapy. In this presentation, the idea of a systemic AIP inspires an expansion of options for the reprocessing and integration of emotional adversities at a collective level. The 8 Phases of the standard protocol are adjusted to encompass the dynamics of this EMDR modality. Excerpts of actual sessions illustrate how this pilot intervention brings new possibilities to EMDR therapists. During these isolating pandemic times, the demand for telehealth psychotherapy has increased sharply, overwhelming many colleagues. Group work may provide an alternative to certain clients who want a more interactive kind of treatment, fostering a sense of connection and belonging. Collective interweaves provide additional tools to clinicians address interactional conflicts or expand the collective awareness of participants.
