Gli ultimi due decenni hanno visto lo sviluppo di varie tecniche terapeutiche (come l'EMDR o le Emotional Freedom Techniques) caratterizzate da interventi semplici e rapidi a livello somatopsichico, che consentono un'elaborazione e un sollievo da sintomi come fobie o ansia generalizzata, o disturbo post-traumatico da stress. Chiamate collettivamente "terapie energetiche", esse pongono degli interrogativi scomodi per i procedimenti terapeutici convenzionali più affermati e teoreticamente più fondati. L'EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) è un metodo terapeutico che prevede l'uso dei movimenti oculari e di altri stimoli dell'attenzione, e l'esposizione a ricordi, immagini e pensieri angoscianti o emotivamente dolorosi.

The last two decades have seen the development of various therapeutic techniques (such as EMDR or Emotional Freedom Techniques) characterized by simple and rapid interventions at the somatopsychic level, which allow for the elaboration and relief of symptoms such as phobias or generalized anxiety, or post-traumatic stress disorder. Collectively referred to as "energy therapies," they pose uncomfortable questions for more established and more theoretically sound conventional therapeutic procedures. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a therapeutic method that involves the use of eye movements and other attentional stimuli, and exposure to distressing or emotionally painful memories, images and thoughts.
