The belief-focused approach to EMDR neural network processing

Description

Since its development, EMDR has evolved from a single-incident desensitization procedure to a sophisticated form of psychotherapy. EMDR processing has supported the neurological hypothesis that not only do neurons that fire together wire together, but they also process together. It is important to identify the client’s entire neural network before beginning processing. As the AIP approach suggests, “the past is present” therefore, identifying the emotions and sensations triggered by the client’s presenting complaint and their origins is essential. Putting language (beliefs) to those emotions and sensations during the case formulation stage of treatment helps map out experiences that may emerge spontaneously during processing. The workshop will teach clinicians how to view presenting concerns from the belief-focused neural network perspective.
