The processing continuum

Description

When EMDR was developed, EMDR processing was essentially a single-speed power tool.  With a single incident, PTSD experience, that tool was sufficient.  However, over the years, EMDR has grown to be a psychotherapy intervention across a wide range of client presentations. Clients often present with more complicated symptoms and are more fragile. In many situations, the client is not willing or able to tolerate full neural network processing. The one-speed fits-all processing procedures may spontaneously open associated channels that will overwhelm the client.  The processing continuum allows the clinicians to manage the client’s process so as to keep them within their window of tolerance.
