Psychological trauma: From research to clinical practice: The experience in the AUSL of Piacenza
Description
Background and aims
Since September 2017, a small group of psychologist-psychotherapists from the AUSL of Piacenza, trained in EMDR, began a supervision of clinical cases: it was important to share methods and materials, to compare, it was an opportunity for growth that then stimulated other colleagues, intrigued by the results and eager to train in EMDR, an elective technique for the treatment of various psychological disorders
Methods
In this way EMDR, as an evidence-based psychotherapeutic technique that facilitates the treatment of various psychopathologies and problems related to traumatic events, has involved more and more areas of application in our work, starting from the psycho-oncological area, and moving on to the area of abuse and mistreatment in childhood and adolescence, addictions, the area of emergencies in disasters and, most recently, in the Covid-19 pandemic: has since expanded to include the trauma of people with spinal cord injury, eating disorders, and the treatment of tinnitus.
Results
The interesting aspect has been the creation of a cross-culture across different application areas, within a “Public Health Company”, where there is a great fragmentation among services and networking, sharing methods and experiences, becomes very complex.
Conclusions
These supervisions have been instrumental in creating a shared culture and boosting clinical research.
