Kia mate ururoa, kei mate wheke Fight like a shark, don't give in like an octopus

Description

This paper provides an update on work completed with a client with DID and complex PTSD using EMDR. Diane presented a paper on the early stages of this work at the EMDR Conference in 2019. She also discussed the tripartite relationship between therapist, client and the funding organisation, reflecting the complexities of working with DID and the parallels we can all experience where organisational dynamics mirror these difficulties. In this update she describes how by fighting like a shark it was possible to complete this work with continued funding over a period of 7 years with a Maori client with DID and complex PTSD. This paper tells the story of a journey of professional and personal hope and speaks to the way we all have to hang in there to the conclusion of such mahi both clinically and in the interaction with funding agencies. The 60-minute presentation will begin with an interactive exercise about your relationship with DID and in conclusion, time will be provided for some discussion.
