Description

This book was created as a learning and training tool to help clinicians learn the application of several psychotherapies to cases of complex trauma. The subject case was chosen precisely because it was a very difficult case. The clinician, Sandra Paulsen, Ph.D., used a combination of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), ego state and somatic therapies to "get the crowbar under the manhole cover" of very recalcitrant symptoms. The authors illustrate the work with Dr Paulsen's original cartoons to quickly communicate key psychological concepts to the reader. The client who is the subject of this book was treated in the intensive format for three days; this was the second intensive. The themes include somatic dissociation, disowned aspects of self, loyalty to the aggressor, and much more. The format is keyed with icons to show what interventions were employed to assist readers in understanding the integration of the methods.
