EMDR therapy for complex posttraumatic stress disorder
Description
Complex posttraumatic stress disorder (CPTSD) is a new diagnostic category that incorporates the diagnostic criteria of posttraumatic stress disorder as well as three additional symptom clusters known as disturbances in self-organization. In this chapter, the evidence for using EMDR therapy for individuals with CPTSD is examined. EMDR therapy is shown to be an effective treatment for individuals with CPTSD, both as part of a phased approach and as a unimodal therapy. Further, several case studies are provided to identify the variation that exists between clients with CPTSD and the need to tailor each intervention plan to the individual client’s needs.
