The efficacy of EMDR group traumatic episode protocol in Ukraine
Description
This quantitative randomized controlled trial study investigated the use of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Group Traumatic Episode Protocol (EMDR G-TEP) in reducing symptoms of wartime psychological distress in Ukrainian mental health professionals. Wartime psychological distress was measured using the Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5), the Impact of Events Scale-Revised (IES-R), the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), and the Subjective Units of Disturbance Scale (SUDS). The intervention group experienced significant improvement at the three time points (ie, pretest, posttest, and six-week follow-up) whereas the control group did not. Results of this study suggest that G-TEP may be an effective intervention in reducing symptoms of wartime psychological distress among Ukrainian mental health professionals working with clients amid war.
