Exploring the potential of psychedelic assisted EMDR (PsyA-EMDR) therapy as a psychedelic preparation and integration tool

Description

There is a growing body of evidence to support the use of psychedelic medications to assist psychotherapy. This poster delves into the contemporary landscape of psychedelic therapies, and introduces the evolving role of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) as a psychedelic preparation and integration therapy. Innovative applications of EMDR therapy are developing through intertwining the expertise acquired from working in psychedelic research settings, with trauma focused therapy practices. Practitioner trainings in psychedelic therapies, practitioner collaborations, self experimentation, independent research and supervised reflective practice further supplement this evolving toolkit. Herein, three illustrative case vignettes explore the potency of EMDR when used to enhance therapeutic outcomes of psychedelic treatments. Whilst much is still unknown, the evidence presented here indicates that synergistic benefits emerge when combining EMDT therapy with psychedelic medications. These findings show promise for novel treatment options and uncover new avenues for further clinical research.
