EMDR therapy with persons with a disability: A healing journey from trauma to resiliency

Description

One of the wonderful things about EMDR is that it does not discriminate as it knows we all have similar brains and the ability to adapt information (AIP) and heal via such things as neurogenesis and cross neural plasticity. There is a wide variety of ways to bring EMDR phases 1-8 to clients making EMDR truly an accessible psychotherapy for all. Via handouts, lecture, following along with activities presented and viewing client videos, this workshop will compare the similarities in how we define trauma and disability, review the Adaptive Information Processing Model (AIP) as it relates to persons who have a disability, become familiar with cultural terminology, and explore the many ways we can bring phases 1-8 of EMDR to persons in the community of those with a disability. We will round out our time with a video of a panel of clients sharing experiences, wisdom and offering tips for successful treatment experiences. There will also be questions provided for personal exploration.
